Earth Cooling

  • Physical Principle:
    Convection
  • Method for Thermal Comfort:
    Cooling

Earth cooling through earth tubes is a passive cooling strategy that uses the stable temperature of the ground to pre-condition incoming air before it enters the building.

Outdoor air is drawn through underground pipes. As the air travels through these buried tubes, it loses heat to the surrounding ground and enters the building cooler than the outside air. The cooled air then circulates indoors, while warmer indoor air rises and exits through higher openings, maintaining a continuous natural airflow.

This process reduces the need for mechanical air conditioning, providing passive cooling and improving indoor comfort through natural temperature regulation.
