Modern architecture is often resource-intensive, overly uniform, or designed with too short a time horizon. We are demonstrating that there is another way: methods and approaches from the Global South offer new pathways towards climate-resilient and people-centred architecture.

At SHIFT x Vienna, ÖGNI, together with SHIFT founders Christine Lemaitre (German Sustainable Building Council) and Thomas Auer (Technical University of Munich), will bring these ideas and perspectives to Austria. Through a series of engaging presentations, we will explore how planning and construction can be fundamentally rethought to create cities that are both liveable and fit for the future.

The event will conclude with a panel discussion featuring leading voices from academia and practice: Prof. Andrea Rieger-Jandl (University of Applied Sciences Campus Vienna), Abdul-Rauf Issahaque (Architect), Dr. Christine Lemaitre (DGNB), Prof. Thomas Auer (Technical University of Munich), and Mag. Peter Engert (ÖGNI). Together, they will discuss how these ideas can be translated into practical solutions and what they mean for the future of sustainable architecture and urban development.
